European leaders have insisted their governments must have a say in talks between the U.S. and Russia to end the war in Ukraine, as both Moscow and Washington said there was no role for Europe in the negotiations that could shape the future of the continent. The leaders of Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, NATO and the European Union held emergency talks in Paris on Europe’s security quandary.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Monday the UK and Europe face a “generational” national security challenge ahead of an emergency meeting of the continent’s leaders. Starmer spoke before traveling to high-level European talks in Paris on how to react to the US shift on Ukraine, which left the once rock-solid partner as a potential political liability.
