Boston will soon become one of the most versatile clubs in Major League Baseball, as the reported three-year deal agreed upon with Alex Bregman brings with it a multitude of lineup and fielding options heading into 2025.

Bregman, of course, is where this thing starts. The Red Sox reportedly will deploy him at second base, but the fact of the matter is that he’s been one of the most sure-handed third basemen in baseball for the last decade. Rafael Devers currently holds that spot, and while there don’t appear to be any plans for that to change, he could easily be moved into a full-time designated hitter role if need be.

NESN already tweeted out what a potential lineup could look like, and it’s glorious. We shouldn’t discount the fact that a few top prospects will be given a chance to break spring training with the big club, though, which could open things up even more.

Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela likely will be the starting outfield on Opening Day, but Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell are both expected to compete for spots.

Rafaela could then take on a superutility role once that duo finds its way to Boston, opening up the possibility for Bregman and Devers to make the changes we laid out earlier.

Rob Refsnyder, Romy Gonzalez, Vaughn Grissom, David Hamilton and Nick Sogard are also competing for bench spots, which is a major difference from when all took on everyday roles at different points last season.

The Red Sox have endless options, but there are three lineups that feel the most likely given where the team currently stands.
