The Red Sox didn’t officially sign Alex Bregman until Saturday, but news of the deal initially broke three nights prior.
“I was getting texts from (Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow),” Cora said on Saturday, as seen on NESN. “I made some calls, went home and fell asleep.”
Yes, he fell asleep, but that isn’t where the story ends. Camila, his daughter, woke him up with a text that immediately got his attention — though not initially for news related to baseball.
“Camila texted me, she goes, ‘Let’s (expletive) go.’ I was like, ‘I hope this text is for me,’” Cora said, drawing laughter from media members. “I looked at the phone and I have like 10 missed calls, because some very important people in the organization were trying to reach out to me. (Bregman) then called me, then the night got long.”
Cora immediately knew he was probably in for another text from his daughter after telling that story, immediately looking into a camera and apologizing to her.
The Red Sox share more about that franchise-altering night when they hold a news conference on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET at Fenway South.
Bregman, his agent Scott Boras, team president Sam Kennedy, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and Cora will be available to the media. You can check out the news conference on NESN and NESN 360 — with more updates throughout spring training on “310 To Left.”
