“Today” show co-host Sheinelle Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, has died following a long battle with brain cancer. He was 45.
Her colleagues announced the news on air Friday morning amid Jones’ extended absence from the NBC talk show.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Savannah Guthrie said through tears.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and her three young children,” she continued. “Uche was an incredible person, and we all loved him.”
After a touching tribute to Ojeh, Craig Melvin tearfully gushed over Jones’ late husband, who loved their three children “more than anything else.”
Al Roker, for his part, called Ojeh a “private guy” who was “wickedly funny” and “humble.”
Multiple sources told Page Six that Ojeh put up a brave fight against the disease.
It’s still unclear how long Ojeh had been sick and when he exactly passed.
Jones, 47, and Ojeh first met at Northwestern University, while the newscaster was a freshman and he was a high school senior touring the campus.
The two went on to date for eight years before the triathlete proposed to Jones during a rainstorm while visiting their alma mater’s campus.
They tied the knot in 2007 before welcoming three children: son Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, 12.
The tragic news of Ojeh’s passing comes amid Jones’ absence from the “Today” show since December 2024.
She shared a brief update with fans on Instagram in January, explaining she was dealing with a “family health matter.”

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my ‘Today’ show family, but also to have you,” the news anchor added.
“Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”
A source later told People that the situation was very “serious.”
“Sheinelle appreciates the support she’s received from fans and viewers in her absence,” an insider told the outlet.
“She’s especially grateful for her tight-knit ‘Today’ show family and co-hosts, for all their love during a sensitive time.”
In April, Jones’ “Today 3rd Hour” co-hosts Craig Melvin, Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer confirmed they had been in touch with her during the difficult time.
“I just talked to her a couple of days ago, [and] as you know, she’s taking some time to be with her family, and we talk to her all the time,” Melvin told “Access Hollywood” at the time.
