Ludvig Åberg has the second PGA Tour win of his career after an outstanding showing at the Genesis Invitational.
Åberg beat Maverick McNealy and Scottie Scheffler in the late stages of Sunday’s final round to secure the win. He finished 12-under par, carding a score of six-under par in the final round.
McNealy came just short of the win, finishing at 11-under par, while Scheffler finished three strokes behind Åberg at 9-under par.
Åberg struggled early at the Genesis Invitational, picking up four bogeys in the opening round, but did enough to stay in the mix heading into Round 2. He made up for the rough start with a tremendous second round that featured five birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole.
He had four bogeys in the third round but also carded four birdies and a hole-in-one on the third hole.
On Sunday, Åberg shook off back-to-back bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes and finished with eight birdies. He carded a birdie on the 18th hole, which sealed the victory over McNealy.
McNealy had a phenomenal start to the day, carding birdies on nine of his first 13 holes. Ultimately, a bogey on the 14th hole and four straight pars to close out the round meant he didn’t have enough to best Åberg.
Åberg, who turned pro less than two years ago, won his first PGA Tour event in 2023 at The RSM Classic. While he had some impressive outings in 2024, including a second-place finish at The Masters, he wasn’t able to finish atop the leaderboard at any event.
Now Åberg is back in the win column, which should give him plenty of momentum heading into the rest of the season.
The win also gives him an early lead in the FedEx Cup standings, and he’ll look to keep his spot at the top next week at the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld.
